20 years ago the futuristic debut Swami album Desi Nu Skool Beatz (2000) was released on Nation Records/ Beggars Banquet. At the time there was a thriving Bhangra scene in the UK in Birmingham and a growing Asian Underground Scene in London. Swami fused both of those worlds together with electronica, techno, drum and bass, breakbeat, reggae and bhangra in exciting and inspired new ways. The title track Mehbooba featured in the Warner Brothers Movie New York Minute (2006) starring Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. This album paved the way for the Swami follow up hit DesiRock (2004).
